Tymewear breathing data in Coachbox

Breathing rate, minute ventilation and tidal volume, read straight out of your activity file.

What Coachbox reads

  • Breathing rate
  • Minute ventilation
  • Tidal volume

Heart rate tells you what the cardiovascular system is doing. Breathing tells you something the heart rate curve hides, and it changes shape at the ventilatory thresholds instead of drifting with heat and fatigue.

What Coachbox reads

Three channels come across: breathing rate in breaths per minute, minute ventilation in litres per minute, and tidal volume in millilitres. They sit alongside heart rate and power on the workout, so you can look at all of it on one timeline.

Breathing rate can come from two places: a Garmin with a respiration source paired, which includes a Tymewear VitalPro used as a Bluetooth heart rate strap, or the Tymewear Connect IQ data field. Minute ventilation and tidal volume only arrive through the Connect IQ field, so install that one if you want all three channels.

Nothing to set up on our side

There is no Tymewear connection to authorise. The values are already in the file your watch uploads, and Coachbox reads them as it parses the workout. If the channels are in the file, they are on the chart.

What it is good for

Ventilation moves before heart rate does, and it breaks at the thresholds rather than sliding. For an athlete whose heart rate has gone unreliable, through heat, illness or a long block of fatigue, it is a second opinion that does not depend on the same physiology.

Questions about integrations

Do I need to connect Tymewear to Coachbox?

No. Tymewear writes its values into the file your watch records and Coachbox reads them from there.

What do I need on the watch?

Either the Tymewear Connect IQ data field, or the VitalPro paired as a Bluetooth heart rate strap. Both routes get the breathing rate into the file. Minute ventilation and tidal volume only come through the Connect IQ field.

Why would I look at ventilation instead of heart rate?

Ventilation responds faster than heart rate and shifts at the ventilatory thresholds. It gives you a second, independent read on where an athlete's intensity boundaries actually sit.
