Every coach looks at the watts. The numbers next to them usually get ignored, mostly because they are buried somewhere hard to reach. Coachbox pulls them off the same file.

What comes across

Left/right balance shows how the effort splits between legs. Pedal smoothness shows how evenly the force is applied through the stroke rather than punched at the top. Cadence sits alongside both.

None of this needs a connection. Your power meter puts the numbers in the file, your bike computer uploads it, and Coachbox picks them out along with everything else.

Reading them without over-reading them

A steady asymmetry is normal. Plenty of strong riders sit at 48/52 their whole career and it means nothing. The number that earns your attention is the one that moves: a balance that drifts as an athlete fatigues through a long effort, or that shifts after a crash or a layoff, tells you something a power curve will not.

Pedal smoothness works the same way. Compare it against itself over time rather than against another rider.

Questions about integrations

Which power meters does this work with?

Any meter that records these numbers, which is most of them. Garmin Rally, Favero Assioma, Quarq and SRM all do. We do not treat one brand differently from another.

Do I need a dual-sided meter?

For left/right balance, yes. A single-sided meter estimates total power from one leg and has nothing real to report about the split.

Is balance worth coaching on?

On its own, rarely. A stable asymmetry is normal for most riders. A balance that shifts during long efforts, or after an injury, is the signal worth watching.
