Coachbox and Apple Watch: workouts in through Apple Health

Apple Watch workouts reach Coachbox through the iOS app and Apple Health. You pull each one in yourself with a tap.

What comes into Coachbox

  • Completed activities

What this connection cannot do

  • iPhone only. Apple Health does not exist on Android, so the option does not appear there.
  • Workouts are not pulled in automatically. They appear in a list in the app and your athlete taps Sync on each one.
  • Only workouts recorded with the Apple Watch itself come through. Sessions logged by other apps or by the iPhone are filtered out on purpose.
  • Planned workouts cannot be sent to an Apple Watch.

The Apple Watch connection works differently from every other one on this page, and it is worth understanding why before you set expectations with an athlete.

It runs through the phone, not the web

Apple keeps this data on the phone itself, in Apple Health, and gives no way to reach it from a website. So the Coachbox iOS app is the only route in. Your athlete installs the app, allows Coachbox to read Apple Health, and their Apple Watch workouts show up in a list.

Each workout is a deliberate tap

From that list your athlete taps Sync on the workouts they want in their calendar. That is more manual than a Garmin, and it is also the reason the connection stays clean: a commute walk and a distracted heart-rate reading do not end up in your training log unless someone decided they should.

Turn on Notify me about new workouts and iOS nudges them as soon as a new session is waiting. Tapping the notification opens the app on this screen, so the whole job is one tap.

What you will not get

Nothing goes back to the watch. Apple does not let another app put a workout on it, so your athlete follows the session in the Coachbox app while the watch records.

Sessions recorded by the iPhone or by third-party apps are filtered out on purpose. Those tend to duplicate what another connection already delivered.

Connecting Apple Watch

  1. 1Your athlete installs the Coachbox iOS app and logs in.
  2. 2In the app they open More, Synchronisation, Apple Health, and turn on the Apple Health sync toggle.
  3. 3iOS asks which data Coachbox may read. They enable every category, Workouts above all, and tap Allow.
  4. 4Their Apple Watch workouts from the past year appear in the list, ready to sync one by one.

Questions about integrations

Why is nothing arriving even though the toggle is on?

Almost always the permissions. iOS shows that screen once, and if a category was left off, Coachbox gets nothing. Open the Health app, go to Sharing, Apps, Coachbox, and turn every category back on.

Do workouts come in automatically?

Not today. They show up in the list in the app and your athlete taps Sync on the ones they want in their calendar. Turn on the notification and they get a nudge as soon as a new workout is waiting.

Does it work on Android?

No. The connection runs on Apple Health, which only exists on iPhone.

Why is my iPhone-recorded run missing?

Coachbox deliberately only takes workouts recorded with the Apple Watch. Activities logged by other apps or by the phone are filtered out so the same run does not land twice.
