Garmin is the connection most of our coaches lean on, and it is the only one that moves everything in both directions. Your athlete’s finished ride lands in the calendar within minutes. Their sleep, resting heart rate, HRV and body battery arrive on the same channel. And the structured session you built this morning is waiting on their watch this afternoon.
What that changes for your coaching
Most coaching platforms give you the workout and stop there. When the recovery data arrives through the same pipe, you stop guessing about the gap between what you planned and what your athlete could actually absorb. A week of poor sleep and a climbing resting heart rate shows up next to the training load, on the same screen, before you write next week’s plan.
Structured workouts land on the watch
Any workout you build as an exportable workout can go to Garmin Connect. From there it syncs to the device and shows up under planned workouts, with the interval structure, the power or heart rate targets and the step text intact. Your athlete presses start and follows the blocks.
Turn on Automatically submit scheduled workouts and this stops being a task. Coachbox stages the next couple of days as soon as you save or change something, and checks again overnight. A session planned further out gets picked up as soon as it enters that window.
The one thing that catches people out
Garmin only shares your history if you tick Historical Data on their consent screen, and it is off by default. Miss it and the connection looks perfectly healthy while only new workouts come in.
Already connected without it? You do not need to reconnect. Turn it on in the Garmin Connect app under More, Settings, Connected Apps, Coachbox, then mail us at support@coachbox.app and we will restart the import for you.
