Vekta vs TrainingPeaks: Which Platform Should Endurance Coaches Pick in 2026?

Vekta vs TrainingPeaks compared: performance models, AI, pricing and coaching workflow. Plus a third option that adds testing and multilingual coaching.

TL;DR: Vekta versus TrainingPeaks is the defining platform fight in endurance sport right now. TrainingPeaks is the 25-year incumbent: the TSS/CTL/ATL framework, the largest ecosystem, a marketplace with thousands of plans, and 15 WorldTour teams. Vekta is the 2025 challenger built on Critical Power and W’ modelling with AI embedded throughout, and it has already pulled seven WorldTour teams away from TrainingPeaks. Vekta wins on analytics and automation; TrainingPeaks wins on ecosystem, devices, strength training and the marketplace. But neither platform offers physiological testing, athlete communication both ways in multiple languages, free athlete accounts with flat coach pricing, or built-in coach education. Coachbox covers that ground: AI-powered lactate testing with LT1/LT2 detection in under 60 seconds, seven platform languages, free athlete accounts and transparent EUR pricing from 12.95 per month. Three platforms, three different ideas of what coaching software is for.

The Case for Vekta

Vekta launched in April 2025 and became the biggest story in endurance software within a year. The reasons are substantive.

A Performance Model Built on Current Science

TrainingPeaks anchors everything to FTP, a single estimated threshold, and blends training stress into one composite score. Vekta rejects both simplifications. Critical Power defines the boundary between sustainable and unsustainable effort, W’ quantifies the finite capacity above it, and both are derived automatically from training data, updated daily, with no test protocol required. Training zones recalibrate continuously, so prescriptions always reflect where the athlete is today.

Load is split rather than blended: Vekta Volume tracks mechanical work, Vekta Intensity tracks physiological cost relative to current capacity (with altitude adjustment), and longer-horizon Load and Strain metrics build on those separated signals. A four-hour endurance ride and a one-hour VO2 max session stop looking identical.

AI That Does the Work

Vekta embeds AI as labour, not decoration. Machine learning detects and classifies intervals in every uploaded session; in a self-published 50-session benchmark from March 2026, Vekta reported 97.54 percent mean detection accuracy against 48.24 percent for TrainingPeaks’ rule-based system. An AI summary is generated after every session and delivered to coach and athlete. The AI workout builder turns a plain-language description, or a voice note on mobile, into a structured, personalised session in seconds. Session comparison surfaces similar past workouts automatically. TrainingPeaks has no native AI in its analytical tools at all.

The WorldTour Voted

In 2025 and 2026, seven WorldTour-level teams left TrainingPeaks for Vekta: Lidl-Trek (men and women), Team Jayco AlUla, Liv AlUla Jayco, FDJ-Suez, Decathlon CMA CGM, Team TotalEnergies and Team AMANI. Riders like Eddie Dunbar, Valentin Madouas and Demi Vollering train on it. Lidl-Trek’s Head of Performance summed up the reason: less time processing data, more time on the human connection with riders.

Free Coaches, Full Mobile, Fast Shipping

Coaches use Vekta for free; athletes pay EUR 19.99 per month or EUR 179.99 per year. The mobile app supports full workout creation and editing, including by voice, where TrainingPeaks still requires a desktop. Vekta maintains a public roadmap and ships major updates every week or two. Migration from TrainingPeaks is fully supported, including up to five years of history and team-assisted bulk imports.

The Case for TrainingPeaks

TrainingPeaks did not hold the top of this market for two decades by accident, and writing it off after the WorldTour departures would be premature.

The Shared Language and the Biggest Ecosystem

TSS, CTL, ATL and TSB remain the vocabulary of structured endurance training worldwide. Federations, coaching certifications and millions of athletes speak it. And the integration list is unmatched: Garmin, Wahoo, Zwift, WHOOP, Suunto, Oura, COROS, Apple Watch, Polar, Strava, TrainerRoad and more. Vekta, by contrast, supports Garmin, Wahoo, Hammerhead, COROS and Zwift, deliberately skips Strava, and does not yet connect Polar, Suunto or Apple Watch. If your athletes’ hardware is diverse, TrainingPeaks simply covers more of it.

A Business Platform, Not Just a Training Platform

The TrainingPeaks marketplace has sold thousands of training plans and gives coaches a real revenue channel, with in-platform invoicing and Coach Match funnelling athletes toward accredited coaches. Vekta has no marketplace and no billing tools. For coaches who monetise plans at scale, TrainingPeaks has infrastructure nobody else in this comparison offers.

Strength, Triathlon and Breadth

TrainingPeaks includes a full strength module with over 1,000 video-guided movements whose load feeds the PMC. Vekta can only mark strength sessions as completed. Multi-sport support on TrainingPeaks is mature across cycling, running, swimming and triathlon, and features like fuelling insights and women’s health sync (Garmin menstrual cycle data) fill out a platform Vekta has not yet matched in breadth.

The Cost of the Incumbent

The weaknesses are equally established. Coach pricing runs $21.99 to $54.99 per month plus $9 per premium athlete per month, in USD, English only. The deep analytics live in WKO5, a separate $169 desktop purchase. Thresholds update manually, there is no real-time messaging, and structured workout creation requires a desktop. Our TrainingPeaks Review covers the details.

Where Both Fall Short

Zoom out from the model war, and the two platforms share blind spots that matter to working coaches.

Neither Has Physiological Testing

Vekta estimates CP and W’ from field data; TrainingPeaks waits for you to type in an FTP. Neither can run a lactate step test, detect LT1 and LT2 from measured blood lactate, or generate zones from a physiological assessment. Coaches who test athletes, and coaches who sell testing as a service, need a separate tool and a manual workflow on either platform. Every retest means transcribing zones by hand into the training system.

Neither Serves the Non-Paying Athlete Well

On Vekta there is no free athlete tier: every athlete costs EUR 19.99 per month, full stop. On TrainingPeaks the free athlete account is deliberately limited, with interval detection and performance insights behind the $19.99 per month Premium wall. A coach with juniors, club riders or budget-sensitive athletes ends up with part of the roster off-platform on both.

Neither Speaks Your Athletes’ Language

Both platforms are English-only. For coaches in the Benelux, France, Germany, Italy, Spain or Portugal, that means every athlete lives daily in a foreign-language app, or does not adopt it at all. In continental Europe, localization regularly decides platform choices, and neither contender addresses it.

Neither Educates or Recruits

No coach education beyond blogs, and no athlete acquisition. TrainingPeaks’ Coach Match is the partial exception, but there is no structured education platform on either side, and Vekta offers no channel that brings new athletes to a coach.

The Multi-Tool Stack Returns

A coach who wants modern analytics, real communication, physiological testing and a localized athlete experience cannot get it from either platform alone. The result is the familiar stack: a delivery platform, a testing tool, a messaging app and a spreadsheet, each with its own subscription and none of them connected.

The Case for Coachbox

Coachbox occupies the ground both combatants leave open: the complete coaching practice.

Testing Built In, Not Bolted On

Coachbox includes AI-powered lactate testing in every coaching plan. Enter values from any lactate meter, and the AI detects LT1 and LT2 in under 60 seconds, calculates zones with multiple methods, updates the athlete’s profile and produces a branded PDF report. Zones flow into workout prescription automatically, and every plan includes free tests at signup, with per-test pricing after that. Where Vekta models physiology and TrainingPeaks asks you to type it in, Coachbox measures it.

A Platform Your Whole Roster Can Use

Athletes of a Coachbox coach use the app free, forever, and the platform is localized in seven languages: English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. Nobody is priced off the roster and nobody navigates a foreign app. Coach pricing is flat and transparent: from EUR 12.95 per month (Base) to EUR 69.95 (Summit), with unlimited athletes from the Build plan at EUR 24.95. A growing roster does not grow the bill.

The Practice Around the Platform

Coachbox AI answers questions about your athletes’ actual data. The Coachbox Academy builds coaching knowledge alongside the software. Matchmaking connects athletes searching for a coach with coaches on the platform. Marketplace and athlete payment automation are coming soon. Device sync covers Garmin, Wahoo, Polar, Suunto, COROS, Fitbit and TomTom, with Zwift and Rouvy coming soon, and 25,000+ users have logged 11 million+ workouts across 15+ countries.

The honest limits: Coachbox does not match Vekta’s CP/W’ modelling, durability analysis or ML interval detection, and it does not match TrainingPeaks’ marketplace or device count. It competes on a different axis: completeness of the coaching practice, measured physiology and athlete accessibility.

Real Coaching Scenarios

Scenario 1: Performance Cycling Coach With Paying Athletes

You coach 12 committed cyclists, all on power meters, all willing to pay for their own tools. Your service is analysis: you live in power files and your athletes expect insight nobody else gives them.

Best choice: Vekta. The modelling depth is unmatched, the AI absorbs your file-review hours, your coach access is free, and each athlete’s EUR 19.99 buys more analytics than TrainingPeaks Premium plus WKO5. This is exactly the practice Vekta was built for.

Scenario 2: Established Coach Selling Plans at Scale

You coach 15 athletes directly but earn a growing share of income from training plans sold to athletes you never meet, and your roster spans Apple Watch, Polar and Garmin hardware.

Best choice: TrainingPeaks. The marketplace is your storefront, the invoicing handles your billing, and the device breadth keeps every customer’s data flowing. Neither Vekta nor Coachbox replaces that revenue channel today.

Scenario 3: Coach Who Tests Athletes

You coach 20 endurance athletes and run lactate step tests every 8 to 12 weeks. On Vekta or TrainingPeaks, every test means external software, manual threshold entry and a hand-built PDF.

Best choice: Coachbox. The test-to-zones-to-prescription chain is the product. AI detects thresholds in under 60 seconds, zones update automatically, and the branded report is ready the same day. Testing becomes a service you sell rather than admin you absorb.

Scenario 4: Benelux Coach With a Mixed Roster

You coach 30 athletes in Belgium: Dutch and French speakers, a few juniors, some club riders, some serious amateurs. You cover platform costs yourself.

Best choice: Coachbox. Free athlete accounts get the whole roster on board, the app runs in each athlete’s own language, and your flat EUR 24.95 per month does not care how many athletes you add. On Vekta the same roster would represent nearly EUR 600 per month in accounts; on TrainingPeaks, an English-only app and per-athlete premium fees.

Who Should Choose What

Choose Vekta if you are…

  • A data-driven cycling coach whose value lives in analytical depth
  • Coaching committed athletes who pay for their own accounts at EUR 19.99 per month
  • Ready to leave FTP behind for CP/W’ modelling with daily updates
  • Excited by AI that removes daily analytical work
  • Comfortable in English with athletes on Garmin, Wahoo, Hammerhead, COROS or Zwift

Your stack: Vekta for analysis and delivery, plus separate tools for testing, billing and education if you need them.

Choose TrainingPeaks if you are…

  • Selling training plans through the marketplace or acquiring athletes via Coach Match
  • Coaching a roster with maximally diverse hardware, from Apple Watch to Polar
  • Invested in the TSS/CTL/ATL framework you and your athletes already speak
  • Programming strength as a structured part of your prescription

Your stack: TrainingPeaks for delivery and marketplace, WKO5 for depth, a messaging app for communication, and a testing tool if you test.

Choose Coachbox if you are…

  • An endurance coach who tests athletes, or wants testing to become a billable service
  • Coaching a real-world roster across budgets, sports and languages
  • Looking for free athlete accounts and flat coach pricing that survives growth
  • Wanting communication, education and athlete acquisition in the same subscription
  • Coaching in the Benelux or across European language borders

Your stack: Coachbox for testing, coaching, communication and growth in one place.

The Bigger Picture

Vekta versus TrainingPeaks is a genuine generational fight: modern performance science with embedded AI against a two-decade ecosystem with unmatched breadth. Vekta has momentum, the WorldTour and the better model. TrainingPeaks has the marketplace, the devices and the installed base. For pure training analytics, the frontier has clearly moved to Vekta, and TrainingPeaks will spend the next years responding.

But both platforms define coaching as the analysis and delivery of training. A working coach’s practice is wider than that: measuring athletes, teaching yourself, finding new clients, communicating in your athletes’ language, and getting every athlete, not just the paying ones, onto one platform. On those dimensions the two rivals are more alike than different, and both leave the same gap.

That gap is where Coachbox sits: not a deeper model than Vekta, not a bigger ecosystem than TrainingPeaks, but the complete coaching practice, with measured physiology at its core, in seven languages, at a price that stays flat while you grow. If you’re weighing all your options, our Vekta Alternatives and TrainingPeaks Alternatives guides cover the full field.

The right choice depends on what your coaching actually is: a modelling practice, a plan business, or a coaching relationship that deserves one platform instead of four.
