TrueCoach Review 2026: The Communication-First Coaching Platform

Honest TrueCoach review for coaches. Features, pricing, strengths and weaknesses. Is it the right platform for your coaching practice?

TL;DR: TrueCoach is a coaching platform for personal trainers and fitness professionals that puts personal training programs, client communication and the business side in one app (TrueCoach). You get mobile apps for iOS and Android plus a web app, a workout and program builder with auto-delivery of workouts, an exercise video library with 3,000+ demo videos, in-app messaging with photos and video, habit tracking, nutrition tracking through MyFitnessPal, and built-in client payments (pricing, program builder). In our view, that makes it a communication-first platform and a good fit for coaches who care as much about the coach-athlete relationship as about the plan. TrueCoach positions itself for fitness, strength, nutrition and therapy work rather than endurance sports (features). In its documentation we did not find TSS or CTL, analysis for lactate testing, a way to send structured power or heart rate workouts to devices such as a GPS watch, or load-based periodization tools (help center). If your athletes race triathlons or ultramarathons and you coach zone-specific training by load, plan on adding other tools.

What Is TrueCoach?

TrueCoach is a web and mobile coaching platform, run as “TrueCoach by Xplor” and part of Xplor Technologies. It describes itself as a platform that lets personal trainers and fitness professionals spend more time coaching and less time on admin. On its about page, TrueCoach lists 16K+ coaches, 250K+ clients and 50M+ workouts delivered (about TrueCoach).

The pitch is simple: build and deliver workouts, track client progress, and stay in touch between sessions. TrueCoach’s own specialty pages name strength and conditioning, bodybuilding, weightlifting, nutrition, physical therapy, functional fitness, occupational therapy, chiropractic, CrossFit, universities and recreation centers (features). Endurance sport is not on that list.

In our view, TrueCoach is not built to be the deepest tool in any single category. What it offers is a clean experience across communication, workout delivery and client management, and many coaches value that more than extra analytics.

Key Features

In-App Messaging and Communication

Communication is central to TrueCoach. Coaches and clients message each other in the app and send photos, videos, GIFs and voice notes. Clients can message you while they look at a workout or comment on a specific exercise, so the conversation stays next to the training (pricing, features, voice notes). You can also send broadcasts to all active clients and run group messages, and a client who is not logged in gets the message by email (messaging your clients).

For coaches who run their communication through WhatsApp and their workouts somewhere else, TrueCoach brings the two together. You see a client’s workout results and your conversation about them in one place (features).

TrueCoach describes its messaging as real-time (pricing). In our view, it covers what most coach and client exchanges need, such as feedback on a finished workout, schedule questions and check-ins.

Exercise Video Library

TrueCoach comes with 3,000+ pre-loaded exercise demonstration videos. As you type an exercise into the workout builder, it links the matching demo video automatically (video exercise library, program builder). Instead of writing “perform a Romanian deadlift” and hoping for the best, your client sees the movement before they try it.

In our view, this helps most with less experienced clients and with coaches who program a wide range of movements. For endurance coaching it matters less, since you rarely demonstrate running form or cycling cadence this way.

You can also upload your own videos from your camera roll or link them from YouTube or Vimeo, and clients can upload a video of themselves doing a workout for you to review (video exercise library).

Programs and Workout Delivery

In TrueCoach, a program is a series of workouts you save for later. You assign it to one client or several, starting at any point, and each client gets their workouts by email or as an app notification. You get a notification when a client finishes a workout or comments on it, and clients can move workouts around to fit their schedule (program builder).

This saves time once your roster grows. You build a 12-week program once, assign it, and the workouts show up on the right days.

The workout builder is free-form: sets, reps, tempo, rest and your own instructions per exercise or circuit, and the mobile app has a built-in timer for rest and intervals (program builder, features). In our view, that covers strength and fitness programming. For endurance sessions with precise heart rate or power targets, we did not find a way in TrueCoach’s documentation to send them to a watch (wearables FAQ, exporting workouts).

Progress Tracking and Wearables

Clients log progress photos, body metrics, macros and custom data points, and they see their progress in reps, weights and heart rate in the app (features). Metrics are fully customizable. TrueCoach’s own examples include resting heart rate, body fat, strength numbers, movement screens and aerobic capacity tests such as a 1 mile run, a 5k row or VO2max, and a metric can update automatically from a workout result (metrics).

On the Standard and Pro plans, clients can connect Garmin, Fitbit, Oura, Google Fit, Polar, Apple Health and WHOOP. TrueCoach then shows graphs for sleep, resting heart rate and steps (wearables FAQ).

For personal training, progress photos and measurements are core deliverables, and TrueCoach keeps them inside the platform. For endurance coaching, progress shows up in power, pace, zones and race results. We did not find power or pace zone analysis in TrueCoach’s documentation (help center).

Mobile Experience

TrueCoach has an iOS app for coaches and clients and separate Android apps for coaches and for clients, plus a web app (pricing). In the same app, clients receive their workouts, see the demo videos, log results and message their coach (the client experience).

In our view, this matters more than it seems. Clients who struggle with technology drop off. An app they enjoy using means more consistent feedback and better communication.

Client and Business Management

TrueCoach Payments, powered by Stripe, handles recurring and one-time client payments on every plan. It is available in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia (payments). TrueCoach does not charge for Payments itself, but each card transaction carries a flat 5% processing fee on the invoice total (processing fees). You also get client onboarding by email or text (pricing), a coach dashboard, compliance alerts when clients start to slip, and the option to pause clients (features).

On the Standard and Pro plans you add your logo, a custom subdomain and a color theme, and you get a public coach profile where new clients can find you (custom-branded app, pricing).

Strengths

Communication Done Right

In our view, TrueCoach’s biggest strength is that it keeps conversations next to the training. You talk to a client about a workout inside the platform where that workout lives, with photos and video when words fall short.

Coaches who split communication across WhatsApp, email and a separate coaching platform get fewer apps and better context when they look back at a client’s history.

Clean Client Experience

In our view, the client app is simple enough for non-technical clients and polished enough to feel professional. For coaches whose clients are recreational rather than data-driven, a platform they use every day is worth more than a deeper one they avoid.

Exercise Video Library Saves Time

Attaching demo videos to exercises cuts down on “how do I do this?” questions and improves execution. With 3,000+ videos pre-loaded (video exercise library), you rarely need to film or source demos yourself.

Straightforward Pricing

TrueCoach prices by the number of active clients. Plans as TrueCoach lists them (pricing):

Plan Active clients Billed monthly Billed annually
Starter Up to 5 29.98 USD/month 26.34 USD/month
Standard Up to 20 69.98 USD/month 57.99 USD/month
Pro Up to 50 164.98 USD/month 136.99 USD/month

TrueCoach states that all prices are in USD and that there are no extra fees. Its terms add that subscription fees do not include taxes such as VAT or sales tax (TrueCoach terms), so the amounts are excl. tax and we do not convert them. Client payments through TrueCoach Payments carry the 5% processing fee described above (processing fees). You can add coaches to a team account at no extra cost (TrueCoach pricing, help center). TrueCoach is free for your clients, there is a 14-day free trial without a credit card, and above 50 clients TrueCoach offers custom pricing by email (pricing). Wearables, custom branding and public coach profiles come with Standard and Pro, not with Starter.

Workout Automation Reduces Admin

Programs you assign deliver themselves, with notifications for the client and for you (program builder). Once your programs are built, daily workout distribution takes little of your time.

Weaknesses

Endurance Analytics Not Found

This is the main limit for endurance coaches. In TrueCoach’s documentation we did not find a performance management chart, training load models such as TSS, CTL and ATL, or a way to follow how endurance fitness builds over time (help center). The wearables integration shows sleep, resting heart rate and steps (wearables FAQ).

In our view, coaching a cyclist or triathlete without load data means you lose the numbers structured endurance coaching relies on. Coaches who need them often add a tool such as TrainingPeaks, which charts TSS, fitness and fatigue (TrainingPeaks), next to TrueCoach. That brings back the split between tools TrueCoach helps you avoid.

TSS and CTL

TSS, CTL and ATL have become the shared language of endurance coaching. If your athletes train with power meters or GPS watches and you base decisions on stress and recovery, we did not find that framework in TrueCoach (help center).

In our view, this reflects who TrueCoach builds for. Its own specialty list centers on fitness, strength, nutrition and therapy (features).

Lactate Testing

You can log test results in TrueCoach as custom metrics, and TrueCoach’s own examples include VO2max and time trials (metrics). We did not find a way in its documentation to enter a lactate step test and derive thresholds or training zones from it (help center).

If testing is central to how you coach, that means analyzing the test in another tool and carrying the result over by hand. Every retest repeats that step.

Sending Structured Workouts to a Device

TrueCoach pulls sleep, resting heart rate and steps from wearables. We did not find a way to send planned workouts to Garmin, Wahoo or other devices in its documentation. The export options we found are a .txt file by email and printing to PDF (wearables FAQ, exporting workouts, printing a program).

For coaches who program interval sessions by power or heart rate, this matters. Telling an athlete to do “4x8 minutes at threshold” in a text note is different from having that exact workout on their watch with targets during the session.

Season Planning

TrueCoach has a planning tool: you create a skeleton for a client’s training with a title, a date range and a focus for each day, and those tags appear on the client’s calendar. TrueCoach’s own example is a build-up to a 5k race (planning tool). We did not find mesocycle or macrocycle views, or planning by training load, in its documentation.

In our view, a cyclist preparing for a July gran fondo needs a season structure with load behind it. TrueCoach delivers workouts on schedule and lets you outline the focus, but the macro-level planning endurance coaches use is not something we found.

Test and Season Reports

You can print workouts and programs to PDF, with client results included (printing a program), and custom branding puts your logo on the client web app and emails (custom-branded app). We did not find a report generator for test results or season summaries in TrueCoach’s documentation.

If you hand athletes a professional report after a test or a season review, plan on building it somewhere else.

Who Is TrueCoach Best For?

TrueCoach is the right platform if you:

  • Coach fitness, strength, nutrition or general wellness rather than pure endurance disciplines
  • Believe communication drives outcomes and want messages next to your training data
  • Work with non-technical clients who need a simple mobile experience
  • Program strength and movement-based work with demo videos for every exercise
  • Want programs that deliver themselves to reduce daily admin
  • Sell coaching packages and want recurring client payments built in, in one of the countries TrueCoach Payments supports (payments)

Ideal TrueCoach user: A personal trainer or fitness coach who moved their practice online, manages up to about 20 clients on the Standard plan (pricing), and wants to deliver programs professionally and stay in touch without living in WhatsApp.

Who Should Look Elsewhere?

TrueCoach may not be the right fit if you:

  • Coach mainly endurance athletes who train with power or heart rate and need interval workouts sent to their watch
  • Use TSS, CTL or load management as the basis for your training decisions
  • Run lactate tests and want thresholds and zones to flow into your coaching platform
  • Plan full seasons in training blocks with load behind them
  • Want branded PDF reports of test results or season reviews
  • Work with athletes who race triathlon, cycling or running at a level where they expect data-driven training

Coachbox as an Alternative

We build Coachbox, so read this section knowing where it comes from.

If you coach endurance athletes and want testing, planning and communication in one place, Coachbox takes a different route. Both products let you message athletes and react to individual workouts, both have an exercise library with videos where you add your own, and both pull sleep and resting heart rate from connected devices. The differences sit around that core.

Coachbox connects lactate testing to the coaching workflow. You enter the values or upload a photo of a paper protocol, and Coachbox determines LT1 and LT2 in under a minute. The zones go into the athlete’s profile with a date, so earlier workouts keep their analysis against the zones that applied then. You can share a branded PDF report of the test results.

Beyond testing, Coachbox gives you a training calendar with an annual plan for periodization, TSS tracking, and device sync with Garmin, Polar, COROS, Suunto, Wahoo, Apple Watch, Fitbit and TomTom. Planned structured workouts go out to Garmin, COROS and Wahoo. Coachbox AI answers questions about your athletes and writes changes straight into their training plan, and Coachbox connects to ChatGPT, Claude and other assistants over MCP. TrueCoach offers an AI meal plan generator as a free Notion template (TrueCoach) and a downloadable program library with an AI program builder (TrueCoach); we did not find an assistant for your clients’ training data in its documentation.

Coachbox plans start at 19 EUR per month billed yearly (25 EUR billed monthly), excl. VAT, with 5 athletes included and 2.50 EUR per extra active athlete. Athletes use Coachbox for free (Coachbox pricing).

The tradeoff: in our view, TrueCoach’s 3,000+ pre-loaded demo videos, its nutrition tracking through MyFitnessPal and its built-in client payments (pricing) fit general fitness coaching well. Coachbox focuses on endurance: testing, zones, load and season planning.

Coachbox has 25,000+ users and more than 12 million workouts logged.

The Bottom Line

In our view, TrueCoach earns its reputation. The messaging, the client app and programs that deliver themselves solve real problems for coaches who find heavier platforms too complex. For fitness and strength coaches, it is a solid professional tool.

For endurance coaching, the things we did not find in its documentation, such as load analytics, lactate test analysis, structured workouts sent to a watch and load-based season planning, are what that work runs on. TrueCoach’s own positioning points at fitness, strength, nutrition and therapy rather than endurance.

If you coach marathoners, cyclists, triathletes or any athlete where zones, testing and structured training matter, we think TrueCoach’s communication strengths will not make up for that gap. For everyone else, in our view it is one of the better options available.
