6 Best TrueCoach Alternatives in 2026

Looking for a TrueCoach alternative? Compare Coachbox, TrainingPeaks, TrainHeroic, CoachRx, Trainerize, and Final Surge.

TL;DR: TrueCoach is a communication-focused coaching platform for personal trainers and fitness coaches, built around a drag-and-drop workout builder, a library of 3,000+ exercise videos, in-app messaging and client payments (TrueCoach features, video library). For endurance coaches, it leaves gaps. Its wearable integration brings in sleep, resting heart rate and steps (Wearables FAQ), but we did not find training load analytics such as TSS or CTL, device sync that sends structured workouts to a watch, or lactate testing in its feature overview or help center (TrueCoach features, help center). Whether you coach endurance athletes and need those, or coach fitness and want a different balance of features, here are six TrueCoach alternatives in 2026, starting with the one we build for endurance coaches.

Why Coaches Look for TrueCoach Alternatives

In our view, TrueCoach earns its loyal users. Messaging with photos, videos and GIFs, a large exercise video library and a mobile app for clients are at the center of the product (TrueCoach features). Here is what we hear from coaches who look elsewhere, set against what TrueCoach documents:

  • Endurance analytics: Clients see progress in reps, weights, heart rate and more (TrueCoach features). We did not find training load metrics such as TSS, CTL or ATL, or a Performance Management Chart, in its feature overview. In our view, endurance coaches lean on load data for most training decisions.
  • Workouts on the watch: On the Standard and Pro plans, TrueCoach connects with Garmin, Fitbit, Oura, Google Fit, Polar, Apple Health and WHOOP, and shows sleep, resting heart rate and steps (Wearables FAQ). We did not find a way to send a structured interval session to an athlete’s watch or bike computer.
  • Physiological testing: We did not find a way to record a lactate test or derive thresholds from one in TrueCoach’s features (TrueCoach features).
  • Season planning: A program is a series of workouts you save for later, assign to one or more clients and extend with extra weeks at any time (Programs). We did not find an annual plan with macro and mesocycles in its documentation.
  • Reports: TrueCoach saves and prints any client workout as a PDF (TrueCoach features). We did not find PDF reports for test results.
  • Cost as you grow: TrueCoach prices by active clients: up to 5, 20 or 50 on its three plans, with special pricing above 50 (TrueCoach pricing). Crossing a tier moves you to the next plan.

None of these make TrueCoach a bad product. In our view, for fitness and strength coaching with communication at the center, it delivers. These are reasons it might not fit the way you coach.

Who Should Use TrueCoach

Stay with TrueCoach if you coach personal training, strength, bodybuilding or general fitness clients and your service runs on programming, video demonstrations and messaging. TrueCoach gives you 3,000+ recorded exercise demonstrations to which you add your own (video library), a drag-and-drop builder, habit tracking, MyFitnessPal nutrition tracking and Stripe payments for coaches in the US, UK, Canada and Australia (TrueCoach features). Clients use it for free, and every plan comes with a 14-day trial (TrueCoach pricing). In our view, none of the endurance platforms below, Coachbox included, matches that exercise video library.

1. Coachbox

Best for: Endurance coaches who want lactate testing, planning, analytics and communication in one platform

We build Coachbox, so read this section knowing where it comes from. Where TrueCoach centers on programming and the athlete relationship (TrueCoach features), Coachbox ties that relationship to lactate testing, training planning, endurance analytics and device sync, in one subscription.

What Makes It Stand Out

  • Lactate analysis in under a minute: Type in your lactate values, or photograph a paper protocol, and Coachbox detects LT1 and LT2 automatically, calculates zones and builds a PDF report.
  • Zones flow into coaching: Zones from a test carry a date. Each workout is analyzed against the zones that applied on that day, so a new test changes future sessions without rewriting history.
  • Coachbox AI: Ask about an athlete, a workout, a lactate test or a whole season, and have it write changes straight into the athlete’s training plan. Coachbox also connects to ChatGPT, Claude and other assistants over MCP.
  • In-app communication: Messages, feedback on workouts, notes and milestones sit together in one notification center, next to the training data.
  • Annual planning: Periodize training across the full season with an integrated annual plan.
  • Training load analytics: Monitor load with the Coachbox Stress Score, developed through research with UGent, and follow fitness trends over time.
  • Recovery and health: HRV, sleep and resting heart rate sync from the athlete’s device, and injuries are logged as milestones.
  • Device sync: Workouts and health data sync from Garmin, Polar, Suunto, COROS, Wahoo, Fitbit and Apple Health. Structured workouts go to Garmin, COROS and Wahoo.
  • Matchmaking: Athletes who sign up on Coachbox looking for a coach can be matched with you, and your own page in the public coach directory makes you findable by sport and location (matchmaking).

Honest Limitations

Coachbox doesn’t match TrueCoach’s exercise video library (video library), which matters if you program a lot of strength and movement variety. You can add strength and core workouts to the calendar, but Coachbox is built for endurance sports. If your coaching is mainly strength or fitness, TrueCoach’s video library and fitness focus will likely matter more to you than Coachbox’s endurance tools.

Pricing

Listed on our pricing page. Coaching plans run from Base at 19 EUR/month billed yearly (25 EUR billed monthly) with 5 athletes included, to Prime at 149 EUR/month billed yearly (190 EUR billed monthly) with 100 athletes included, all excl. VAT. Build includes 25 athletes and Peak 50. Each extra active athlete costs 1.50 to 2.50 EUR per month excl. VAT depending on the plan; an athlete counts as active when they have workouts planned in the future. Lactate tests cost 3 to 6 EUR excl. VAT per test depending on the plan, with free tests when you start. Athletes you coach use Coachbox for free.

Best For

Endurance coaches (cycling, triathlon, running, rowing, swimming) who run lactate tests and want the results to flow into training plans and athlete communication. In our view, it suits coaches who now run two or three tools side by side and want one.

2. TrainingPeaks

Best for: Coaches who want TSS-based endurance analytics and a large ecosystem of devices, plans and coaches

TrainingPeaks is a training platform for endurance athletes and coaches, built around Training Stress Score and the Performance Management Chart (PMC).

What Makes It Stand Out

  • TSS, CTL, ATL and the PMC: The Performance Management Chart tracks fitness (CTL), fatigue (ATL) and form (TSB) from TSS data, so you plan load ahead and read it back (PMC, TSS). In our view, these metrics have become shared vocabulary among endurance coaches.
  • Large ecosystem: TrainingPeaks says it connects with more devices and apps than any other endurance training app, including Garmin, Wahoo, the Apple Watch and Zwift (compatible apps and devices). It reports 70,000+ training plans sold on its marketplace in 2023 (TrainingPeaks for coaches), and runs Coach Match to connect athletes with coaches (Coach Match).
  • Structured workouts on the device: Premium athletes sync planned workouts to their device (TrainingPeaks Premium).
  • Annual Training Plan: The ATP periodizes a season around the athlete’s goal events (ATP setup).
  • Messaging: Coaches and Premium athletes message each other in the web and mobile apps, one to one or in groups (TrainingPeaks Messaging).
  • Plan sales: Coaches sell training plans on the marketplace; TrainingPeaks lists $10,000+ monthly income for its top sellers (TrainingPeaks for coaches).

Coachbox and TrainingPeaks share much of this ground: both have training load analytics, season planning, in-app messaging and structured workouts sent to Garmin and Wahoo (structured workout sync).

Honest Limitations

Messaging is limited to Premium athletes and coaches aged 18 and older (TrainingPeaks Messaging). We did not find a way to record a blood lactate test, or PDF reports for test results, in TrainingPeaks’ help center; its zones calculator works from threshold values such as lactate threshold heart rate (Zones Calculator). Syncing planned workouts to a device is listed as a Premium feature (TrainingPeaks Premium), so your cost depends on how many of your athletes need Premium.

Pricing

Coach Edition starts at $21.99 USD per month, billed monthly, with 4 Basic athletes and 1 Premium athlete included, plus a $99 start-up fee that a coupon code waives; with 5 or more Basic athletes the base price is $54.99 per month. Coach-paid Premium costs $9 per athlete per month, with volume discounts. TrainingPeaks notes that additional taxes may apply (TrainingPeaks for coaches). Its help center lists the discount steps, down to $4.50 per Premium athlete from 1,000 athletes, and says TrainingPeaks charges VAT on top for coaches in the EU and the UK (TrainingPeaks help: coach billing). Athletes can also buy Premium themselves at $19.95 per month or $134.99 per year (TrainingPeaks Premium).

Best For

Coaches who build on TSS and CTL, work with athletes already on TrainingPeaks, or earn income from the training plan marketplace.

3. TrainHeroic

Best for: Strength and conditioning coaches who program for teams

TrainHeroic is a strength and conditioning platform for coaching individuals or groups of athletes organized in teams (TrainHeroic pricing).

What Makes It Stand Out

  • Team programming: Group clients into teams for program delivery and group communication (TrainHeroic pricing), and share programming between teams through Parent Calendars (Parent Calendars).
  • Strength programming tools: Prescribe lifts as percentages of an athlete’s working max or with linear weight progression (percentages), and include RPE, tempo and rest (RPE and tempo).
  • Exercise videos: Use TrainHeroic’s library or create exercises with your own videos (custom videos), and review athlete videos to give feedback (TrainHeroic pricing).
  • Leaderboards: Add a leaderboard to an exercise, circuit or superset so athletes on a team see how their scores rank (leaderboards).
  • Marketplace: Sell programs through the TrainHeroic Marketplace (TrainHeroic pricing).

Honest Limitations

TrainHeroic is built for strength sports. Its help center lists two integrations: Apple Health, through which Athlete Pro subscribers see their nutrition data, and Zapier, for coaches who reach customers by email (integrations). We did not find training load metrics such as TSS or CTL, structured workout sync to a watch, or lactate testing in its help center (TrainHeroic support).

Pricing

Plans are priced by athlete count, from $9.99 per month for 1 athlete and $17.99 for up to 5, to $99.99 for up to 100 and $399.99 for up to 1,000, with a quote above that. Assistant coaches cost $9.99 per month each. The page lists monthly prices in dollars (TrainHeroic pricing), and TrainHeroic adds US sales tax where required, based on the billing zip code (sales tax FAQ).

Best For

Strength and conditioning coaches at schools, universities or clubs managing teams, and powerlifting and weightlifting coaches who program by percentages and RPE.

4. CoachRx

Best for: Coaches who design individual programs and want exercise, nutrition and lifestyle in one calendar

CoachRx carries OPEX branding and ships with 60+ OPEX-designed program templates (CoachRx). It focuses on individual program design, with exercise, nutrition and lifestyle prescriptions in one calendar.

What Makes It Stand Out

  • Program design and periodization: Plan macro, meso and microcycles, with a program calendar and an AI assistant, RxBot (CoachRx features, CoachRx).
  • Lifestyle coaching: Prescribe and track daily behaviors next to training, with visual calendars and compliance metrics (CoachRx).
  • Communication: Answer questions, comments and direct messages from one activity feed, send Loom video messages and schedule messages ahead (CoachRx features).
  • Assessments: Assessment and fitness monitoring exercises feed into personalized programs (CoachRx features).
  • Exercise library: 2,000+ video demonstrations, to which you add your own videos (CoachRx features).

Honest Limitations

CoachRx aims at individual design fitness coaching (CoachRx features). Its homepage lists wearable integrations, while its features page lists wearable integration in one place and marks it coming soon in another (CoachRx, CoachRx features). We did not find endurance training load metrics, structured workout sync to a watch, or lactate testing on its site.

Pricing

Priced by active clients: 1 to 5 clients at $29 per month, or $25 per month billed annually; 6 to 50 clients at $79, or $67 billed annually; 51 to 150 clients at $199, or $169 billed annually. Above 150 clients, CoachRx quotes enterprise pricing. The page does not say whether prices include tax (CoachRx pricing). The FAQ on its homepage lists $149 per month for 51 to 150 clients (CoachRx); we show the pricing page figure.

Best For

Coaches who build individual programs and want nutrition and lifestyle prescriptions in the same calendar as training.

5. Trainerize

Best for: Fitness coaches who include nutrition and habits in their service

ABC Trainerize serves personal trainers, online coaches, studios and gyms, with fitness, nutrition and habit coaching in one app (Trainerize).

What Makes It Stand Out

  • Nutrition: Clients log meals by photo, barcode or search, and coaches follow the food logs (Trainerize features). Meal and macro tracking comes with the Grow plan and up; Advanced Nutrition Coaching is a paid add-on (Trainerize pricing).
  • Habits: Schedule habits for clients and track their progress (Trainerize features).
  • Business tools: Scheduling, payments through Stripe, and client and team management (Trainerize features). Stripe Integrated Payments and Business are paid add-ons; Business covers prospect scheduling, trial products, product sales and client referrals (Trainerize pricing).
  • Integrations: Garmin, Withings, Fitbit, MyFitnessPal, Zapier, Mindbody and more (Trainerize pricing). From Garmin, coaches see activities, calories burned, steps, sleep and resting heart rate (Trainerize features).
  • Exercise content: Ready-made exercises, workouts and programs to assign, plus custom exercise videos on the Pro plan (Trainerize features, Trainerize pricing).

Honest Limitations

Trainerize is a fitness and personal training tool. We did not find endurance training load metrics, a way to send structured interval workouts to a Garmin watch, or lactate testing in its feature pages (Trainerize features). From Garmin it imports activities and health data (Garmin sync), and its Apple Watch app lets clients track workouts and habits (Trainerize integrations).

Pricing

A free plan covers 1 client. Grow costs $10 per month for up to 2 clients, and Pro starts at $25 per month for 5 clients, $135 per month for 50, up to $250 per month for 200. Annual billing saves 10%. Prices are in USD and subject to applicable taxes, and add-ons such as Advanced Nutrition Coaching ($20 or $45 per month depending on the plan) cost extra (Trainerize pricing).

Best For

Online personal trainers and fitness coaches who include nutrition and habit coaching in their service, or who want scheduling and payment tools in the same app.

6. Final Surge

Best for: Endurance coaches who want a training calendar and team tools at a low monthly price

Final Surge is a training log and coaching platform for athletes, coaches, teams and clubs, in any sport (Final Surge).

What Makes It Stand Out

  • Structured workouts on the device: Build workouts with pace, heart rate and power targets, and sync or export them to Garmin Connect, the Apple Watch, TrainerRoad and Zwift (Final Surge features, for coaches).
  • Communication: Workout comments, Mailbox messages to individuals, groups and teams, and private social walls (Final Surge features).
  • Teams and groups: A multi-calendar view for training groups and attendance rosters for group sessions (for coaches).
  • Health and injuries: Apple Health sync of sleep, resting heart rate and HRV, HRV and morning readiness in Athlete Premium, and a Pain and Injury Report (Final Surge features).
  • Coaching business: Recurring subscriptions, payments, intake questionnaires, waivers and a training plan marketplace (for coaches).

Coachbox and Final Surge share much of this ground: both send structured workouts to Garmin, sync health data and keep coach and athlete conversations on the platform (Final Surge features).

Honest Limitations

Final Surge analyzes pace, heart rate, power, cadence and time in zones (Final Surge features). We did not find a Performance Management Chart, a TSS-based load model or lactate testing on its feature pages or in its help center (Final Surge support).

Pricing

The athlete account is free, and Athlete Premium is an optional in-app purchase (Final Surge features). The Coach Starter Package costs $19 per month for 1 to 5 athletes, and the Pro Package $39 per month for up to 100 athletes. Billed yearly, they cost $190 and $390 per year, a saving of 17%. High schools, colleges and rosters above 100 get special pricing. The page lists prices in dollars and does not say whether they include tax (Final Surge pricing).

Best For

Running, triathlon and multisport coaches, clubs and school teams who want structured workouts, team communication and athlete payments at a low monthly price.

“Not found” means we looked in the vendor’s own documentation and did not find it, not that it cannot exist. The products bill in different ways (by active client tier, per Premium athlete, by athlete count, or a plan with included athletes plus a fee per extra athlete), so compare what you would pay for your own roster, not only the starting price. Coachbox lists its prices without VAT. TrueCoach, TrainingPeaks and Trainerize say taxes come on top, and TrainHeroic adds US sales tax where required; CoachRx and Final Surge do not say on the pages we link, so we show their prices as listed and do not convert them. How to Choose the Right TrueCoach Alternative

If your core problem is endurance analytics…

Look at Coachbox or TrainingPeaks. Both give you training load analytics, season planning and in-app messaging. Coachbox adds lactate testing in the same platform. TrainingPeaks has the TSS, CTL and PMC framework many endurance coaches already know (PMC).

If your core problem is getting workouts onto the watch…

Look at Coachbox, TrainingPeaks or Final Surge. All three send structured workouts to devices. Coachbox sends them to Garmin, COROS and Wahoo, and syncs completed sessions from Polar, Suunto, Fitbit and Apple Health too. TrainingPeaks does it for Premium athletes (TrainingPeaks Premium), and Final Surge syncs to Garmin Connect, the Apple Watch, TrainerRoad and Zwift (Final Surge features).

If your core problem is physiological testing…

Look at Coachbox. Lactate testing is part of every Coachbox coaching plan. We did not find lactate testing in the documentation of the other five platforms on this list; the links are in each section above.

If your core problem is cost…

Compare the tiers at your roster size. At the monthly prices listed, TrueCoach costs $69.98 for up to 20 clients and $164.98 for up to 50 (TrueCoach pricing). CoachRx costs $79 for 6 to 50 clients (CoachRx pricing), and Final Surge $39 for up to 100 athletes (Final Surge pricing). Which one costs less depends on where your roster falls within each tier, and on what you would give up: in our view, TrueCoach’s video library and fitness focus are worth paying for if your clients use them.

If your core problem is fitness vs. endurance fit…

TrainHeroic or Trainerize, depending on your discipline. TrainHeroic for strength and conditioning teams, Trainerize for fitness coaching that includes nutrition and habits. In our view, both fit those contexts at least as well as TrueCoach does.

Migrating from TrueCoach

If you’re switching platforms, a few practical steps make the transition smoother:

  1. Export athlete data first: TrueCoach emails you a client’s workouts for a chosen time frame as a .txt file, and your client list with key client data as a CSV file (exporting workouts, exporting clients). Do this before you cancel.
  2. Notify athletes with lead time: Give athletes 2 to 4 weeks’ notice before switching their workflow to a new app. A surprise platform change costs engagement.
  3. Run both systems during the transition: Keep TrueCoach active for current clients while you build the new workflow. A clean cutover beats a rushed one.
  4. Plan time to rebuild your programs: Check whether the new platform imports your programs. If not, budget time to rebuild your key programs.
  5. Test the athlete experience: Before you move everyone, run a full athlete journey (onboarding, workout delivery, communication, reporting) with a test account or a willing early adopter.

Final Thoughts

In our view, TrueCoach serves fitness and strength coaching practices well. If your work centers on programming, video demonstrations and client communication, it is a professional tool.

Coaching comes in different shapes, though. Endurance coaches plan around training load, workouts on the watch and test results, and in TrueCoach’s documentation we did not find those. The best alternative depends on which gap matters most to you.

For endurance coaches who want testing, analytics and communication in one platform, we built Coachbox for exactly that. For coaches already deep in the TrainingPeaks ecosystem, staying there often makes sense. For coaches who mostly want a lower monthly price, compare the tiers of CoachRx and Final Surge against your roster.

Whatever you choose, make sure the platform fits how you coach today, not how a marketing page describes your ideal workflow.
