TrainingPeaks Pricing 2026: Complete Breakdown for Coaches and Athletes

TL;DR: TrainingPeaks pricing for coaches starts with the Coach Edition, listed from $21.99 USD per month, with 4 Basic athletes and 1 Premium athlete included, or $54.99 USD per month for unlimited Basic athletes. Each extra Premium athlete you pay for costs $9 per month, dropping to $4.50 with volume discounts, and “additional taxes may apply” (TrainingPeaks coach pricing). Athletes can also buy Premium themselves for $19.95 per month or $134.99 per year (TrainingPeaks athlete pricing). The real cost of your subscription depends on how many of your athletes need Premium and who pays for it, and on whether you need a separate tool for lactate testing or reporting. Update, 22 July 2026: Garmin announced that it has acquired TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic from Peaksware Holdings (Garmin press release). On 29 September 2026, TrainingPeaks’ pricing pages list the prices on this page, and its help center still documents sync with other device brands such as Polar and Suunto (Polar Flow sync, Suunto sync). Here is what these numbers mean in practice.

Athlete Pricing: Free Basic vs Premium

TrainingPeaks offers two tiers for athletes. Basic is free; Premium adds planning, analysis and communication features. TrainingPeaks offers a 14-day free trial of Premium (TrainingPeaks athlete pricing).

TrainingPeaks Messaging, the in-app chat between coach and athlete, is also limited to Premium athletes (and to users aged 18 and older) (TrainingPeaks Messaging).

In our view, the split matters for coaches. Features many coaches rely on, such as custom zones, the athlete’s own view of the Performance Management Chart and messaging, sit in Premium. So you either pay Premium for your athletes or ask them to pay $19.95 per month (or $134.99 per year) on top of your coaching fee.

Coach Pricing: The Full Picture

Two Base Plans

TrainingPeaks offers two coach plans, which differ in how many Basic athletes you can add (Coach Account Pricing and Billing):

TrainingPeaks bills coaches on the first of the month for the previous month’s usage, prorated to the day. EU coaches pay VAT on top (18 to 27% depending on the country) unless they add a VAT ID, and TrainingPeaks also collects VAT from coaches in the UK (Coach Account Pricing and Billing). We did not find a yearly billing option for coach accounts on the pricing page or in the billing article. A 7-day free trial is available for coaches (TrainingPeaks coach pricing).

TrainingPeaks’ own advice: choose Coach Edition if most of your athletes are Premium, and Coach Edition Unlimited if you coach groups, teams or clubs with many athletes who don’t need Premium features such as Post-Workout Notifications (TrainingPeaks coach pricing, Coach Account Pricing and Billing). Coaches with an active National Governing Body certification can get up to 20% off Coach Edition Unlimited (Coach Account Pricing and Billing).

Premium Athlete Add-On Costs

Each Premium athlete you pay for as a coach adds a monthly fee on top of your base plan. TrainingPeaks lists these volume discounts (TrainingPeaks coach pricing):

Athletes who pay for their own Premium cost you nothing extra and don’t count toward these discounts. An athlete you upgrade to Premium stays Premium for at least 14 days (Coach Account Pricing and Billing).

In our view, the volume discounts make a real difference at scale, while a coach with 10 to 50 athletes sees discounts of 5 to 15%.

How the Premium Athlete Cost Adds Up

Here is how the per-athlete model works in practice.

You start with a $21.99 base and one included Premium athlete. Each extra Premium athlete you pay for adds $9 per month until you reach the next discount tier. Every athlete who needs a Premium feature, such as custom zones or messaging, adds to your monthly bill unless the athlete pays for Premium.

So your TrainingPeaks cost grows with your roster. In our view, that is the main thing to plan for: the more athletes you coach on Premium, the higher your monthly bill, even with the volume discounts.

Coachbox also charges more as your roster grows, but in a different way: each plan includes a set number of athletes, and above that you pay a fixed fee per extra active athlete. More on that below.

Cost Examples

The examples below use the method of the cost estimator on TrainingPeaks’ coach pricing page: the base price plus every Premium athlete after the included one, at the discount tier that matches your total number of Premium athletes (TrainingPeaks coach pricing). TrainingPeaks calls that tool “just an estimator”, and its help center says the discount count starts after the included Premium athlete (Coach Account Pricing and Billing), so your invoice can differ. Where the help center’s count gives a different tier, we show that amount under the example. All amounts in USD, before VAT or sales tax.

Example 1: Coach with 10 Premium Athletes

By the help center’s count, the 9 athletes after the included one stay in the under-10 tier at $9.00, which gives $102.99 per month.

Example 2: Coach with 25 Premium Athletes

Example 3: Coach with 50 Premium Athletes

By the help center’s count, the 49 athletes after the included one fall in the 20 to 49 tier at $8.10, which gives $418.89 per month.

Example 4: Coach with 20 Athletes, 5 of Them on Premium

Example 5: Athletes Pay Their Own Premium

Some coaches ask athletes to buy their own Premium subscription, at $19.95 per month, $49.00 per quarter or $134.99 per year (TrainingPeaks athlete pricing). That moves the cost from you to the athlete and adds to what the athlete pays for coaching.

If your coaching fee is $150 per month and your athlete pays $19.95 per month for Premium, the athlete pays $169.95 per month in total, plus any tax TrainingPeaks adds. In our view, some athletes push back on that, especially when they compare with platforms where the athlete app comes with the coaching.

Training Plan Marketplace Revenue

To be fair to TrainingPeaks, the cost conversation isn’t one-sided. On its coach pricing page, TrainingPeaks lists these numbers for its Training Plan Marketplace (TrainingPeaks coach pricing):

• 100,000+ marketplace visits per month
• 70,000+ training plans sold in 2023
• $10,000+ monthly income for top sellers

TrainingPeaks takes a 30% commission on every plan sold in the marketplace or through a private URL, sets a minimum marketplace price of $4.95, and pays out monthly via PayPal (How to sell your Training Plans).

For coaches who create good training plans, the marketplace can offset or exceed the subscription cost. A marathon plan at $49.99 that sells 10 copies a month brings in $499.90 before commission, or $349.93 after the 30%.

In our view, marketplace income isn’t guaranteed. Most coaches won’t become top sellers, and creating, marketing and maintaining plans that sell takes real time. It’s an opportunity, not a guaranteed return.

Other Costs to Consider

Beyond the subscription fees, a few costs depend on how you coach.

Lactate Testing

We did not find lactate test analysis in TrainingPeaks’ help center. Its zone calculators start from threshold values you enter or calculate from workout data, and its list of health metrics has no lactate field (Zones Calculator Overview, health metrics). If you offer lactate tests as part of your coaching, you analyze them in another tool and enter the new thresholds in TrainingPeaks yourself.

What that costs depends on the tool. For INSCYD, for example, we did not find a public price list; its demo page says you see package options and pricing during the demo (INSCYD demo); see our INSCYD pricing page. Coachbox includes lactate testing in every coaching plan, and also sells a standalone Lactate Module at 49 EUR per month billed yearly, excl. VAT, for labs and occasional testers.

Communication

TrainingPeaks has in-app messaging for coaches and Premium athletes, with direct and group conversations on web and mobile (TrainingPeaks Messaging). Basic athletes communicate through post-activity comments (TrainingPeaks coach pricing). So if you want to message every athlete in the app, each of them needs Premium, paid by you or by them.

Reports and Branding

TrainingPeaks lets you add your logo as a header to your account and link it to your website (Integrating Your Branding). We did not find branded PDF reports for tests or progress in its help center. If you send athletes reports with your brand on them, check whether you need another tool for that.

Athlete Billing

Monthly Premium for an athlete costs $19.95, against $11.25 per month on the yearly plan, which TrainingPeaks describes as a 44% saving (TrainingPeaks athlete pricing). Athletes who don’t want to commit for a year pay more.

The Activation Fee

TrainingPeaks charges a $99 activation fee when you open a coach account, and again if you close and reopen it. The pricing page shows the coupon code TPCOACH that makes it free. Coach accounts can’t be put on hold, so TrainingPeaks suggests switching to Coach Edition instead of closing if you pause for up to 4 months (Coach Account Pricing and Billing).

How Coachbox Pricing Compares

Coachbox prices its plans in euro and publishes them on the website (Coachbox pricing). Athletes who train with a coach on Coachbox use the app for free; the paid One plan (4 EUR per month billed yearly, excl. VAT) is for athletes who coach themselves. Each plan includes a set number of athletes, and above that you pay a fixed fee per extra active athlete, meaning an athlete with workouts planned in the future. All Coachbox prices below exclude VAT.

Following an athlete’s data without planning ahead doesn’t count toward your plan, so you can react to workouts they did without a plan at no cost.

What’s Included in Every Coachbox Plan

Much of this is common ground. TrainingPeaks also offers a calendar and structured workouts, messaging for Premium athletes (Messaging), an Annual Training Plan (ATP methodologies; athletes open it with Premium, Basic vs Premium for coaches), HRV, sleep and resting heart rate metrics (health metrics) and device sync (Device & Sync). The difference is mostly in how you pay for it and which athletes get which features.

How Each One Bills

The two platforms charge in different ways, so we don’t add them up into one monthly or yearly total for a roster. The total depends on how many of your athletes need Premium on TrainingPeaks, who pays for it (Coach Account Pricing and Billing), and how many active athletes you coach on Coachbox.

Coach rows compare prices without VAT on both sides. TrainingPeaks lists its prices in USD and adds VAT for coaches in the EU (18 to 27% depending on the country) unless you add a VAT ID, and also collects VAT from coaches in the UK (Coach Account Pricing and Billing). For athletes, TrainingPeaks adds VAT at the rate of the athlete’s country (Sales tax); it is based in the US and names no single rate, so we don’t convert its athlete prices. Coachbox lists its prices without VAT. We don’t convert USD to EUR, because the rate changes daily.

What TrainingPeaks Offers Beyond the Subscription

To be fair:

• Training Plan Marketplace: sell plans to TrainingPeaks’ audience (how to sell plans). A Coachbox marketplace is planned but not live yet.
• Coach Match: coaches who have held TrainingPeaks Level 2 accreditation for at least 3 months can apply to receive athlete leads (Coach Match Program).
• TrainingPeaks Virtual: an indoor cycling platform where you can host branded events and group rides (TrainingPeaks coach pricing).
• TrainingPeaks Payments: automated athlete billing through Stripe, for coaches in the US, UK, Canada and Australia (TrainingPeaks Payments). Payment automation for athletes is coming to Coachbox but not live yet.

These features have real value. If marketplace revenue or Coach Match leads are a big part of your business, count that income in the comparison.

Which Pricing Model Works for You?

Choose Coachbox pricing if…

• You want to know your cost per athlete upfront. A set number of athletes per plan and a fixed fee per extra active athlete, and your coached athletes need no paid tier.
• You test lactate. Testing is part of every plan, with a published price per test after the free tests.
• You want every coached athlete on the same features. Coached athletes use the app, including messaging, for free.
• You work in euro. Coachbox lists its prices in EUR.
• You want planning, testing, communication and reports in one subscription.

Who Should Use TrainingPeaks

Use TrainingPeaks if marketplace revenue offsets your costs, or you want access to Coach Match leads and TrainingPeaks’ audience of athletes. It also fits if your athletes already pay for their own Premium, because those athletes cost you nothing extra (Coach Account Pricing and Billing), or if you coach a large group of athletes who don’t need Premium features, where Coach Edition Unlimited covers them for $54.99 USD per month. Coaches with a National Governing Body certification can get up to 20% off that plan. With a very large roster (200+ coach-paid Premium athletes), the volume discounts bring the price per athlete down to $6.30 or less. And if your athletes already use TrainingPeaks, staying saves you a migration.

Look elsewhere if you want lactate test analysis in the same subscription (we did not find it in TrainingPeaks’ help center), or if you coach 10 to 50 athletes who each need Premium features and the per-athlete fee weighs on your margins.

In our view, the best pricing model is the one that matches your coaching business. TrainingPeaks’ per-athlete approach works well for coaches with marketplace income, athletes who pay their own Premium, or large groups on Basic. Coachbox’s plans with athletes included work well for coaches who want a known cost per athlete and testing in the same platform.

Neither is always cheaper. The right question isn’t “which costs less?” but “which gives me more value per euro or dollar spent?”
